The Minnesota Twins are out of contention for a playoff berth, but you never would be able to tell by their performance this month. Minnesota attempts to continue its impressive play in August on Tuesday, when it hosts the struggling Cleveland Indians in the middle contest of their three-game series. The Twins are 15 1/2 games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers in the American League Central and 13 games off the pace in the race for the second wild-card spot despite going 8-4 since the start of the month.

Minnesota posted its fourth win in five games Monday behind Andrew Albers, who tossed a two-hit shutout in just his second major-league start. The loss was the seventh in eight contests for the Indians, who trail the Tigers by seven games after beginning the month two behind the division leaders. Cleveland, which fell into third place in the division behind Kansas City, is 4 1/2 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the second AL wild-card spot.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
