New York @ Tampa Bay preview
Tropicana Field
Last Meeting ( Jul 28, 2013 ) Tampa Bay 5, NY Yankees 6
The red-hot New York Yankees look to match their longest winning streak of the season when they begin a three-game series at the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. After a dramatic win in the series finale in Boston on Sunday, New York swept four straight from Toronto to continue its climb into the thick of the playoff race. The Yankees reside 3 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second wild card spot in the American League and six games behind the first-place Red Sox in the AL East.
Tampa Bay took two of three in Baltimore to begin the week, pulling within one game of Boston in the AL East race. The Rays have won six of eight since a six-game losing streak and have taken 18 of their last 23 games at home. They've held seven of their last eight opponents to four runs or fewer.
