San Diego @ San Francisco preview
AT&T Park
Last Meeting ( Sep 13, 2016 ) San Diego 6, San Francisco 4
Winners of their first nine meetings against San Diego this season, the San Francisco Giants are now struggling to record a single victory against the lowly Padres. The Giants look to bounce back from one of their worst losses of the season Wednesday in the finale of a three-game series against visiting San Diego, which scored five runs in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s 6-4 win.
San Francisco has lost five in a row to San Diego, which rallied Tuesday against relievers Hunter Strickland and Steven Okert, who were seeking to fill the role vacated by deposed closer Santiago Casilla. Right fielder Hunter Pence is 15-for-28 during his seven-game hitting streak for the Giants, who are four games behind the Dodgers in the National League West and just a half-game ahead of the New York Mets for the first wild-card spot in the NL. Giants third baseman Eduardo Nunez has missed the last two games because of back tightness but could return for the series finale against San Diego, which saw rookie second baseman Ryan Schimpf blast his 19th home run in Tuesday’s win. Padres third baseman Yangervis Solarte is 12-for-32 during his eight-game hitting streak and has seven RBI during his last four games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Luis Perdomo (7-9, 5.89 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (14-8, 2.61)
Perdomo suffered his second straight loss after allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings Friday against Colorado. Bumgarner aims for his 100th career victory after yielding four runs over six innings in a no-decision Friday against Arizona.
