Guaranteed Rate Field

Last Meeting ( Aug 24, 2013 ) Texas 2, Chi. White Sox 3

Josh Phegley did not expect to play a role with the Chicago White Sox this season, but the rookie's first career walk-off hit on Saturday evened the series with the visiting Texas Rangers at a game apiece. Avisail Garcia, another rookie, scored the winning run as the White Sox won for the seventh time in eight games entering Sunday's series finale. Garcia, who was acquired from Detroit as part of the three-team traded involving Jake Peavy, is riding an 11-game hitting streak.

Saturday's loss was only the fifth in 24 games for the Rangers, who had their lead over the Oakland Athletics in the American League West trimmed to 2 1/2 games. It also snapped a nine-game road winning streak and four-game overall run for Texas, which is playing the sixth of eight consecutive series against clubs with a sub-.500 record. Alex Rios, acquired from Chicago by Texas earlier this month, hit his first homer for the Rangers on Saturday, halting a 29-game drought.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Matt Garza (3-1, 4.32 ERA) vs. White Sox LH John Danks (3-10, 4.22)

Garza is 2-0 over his last three starts but has not pitched that well, allowing 13 runs in that span and giving up at least four in four consecutive outings. The Rangers have piled up 30 runs in his last three starts, including 16 in Monday's drubbing of Houston in which Garza yielded five runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. He did not allow a homer in that start after yielding six in his previous four outings.

Danks halted a five-game losing streak in his last start, blanking Kansas City on seven hits over eight innings in his best performance of the season. It was the first win in nine starts for Danks, who also has been hurt by the long ball, surrendering 22 this season. Danks has made nine career starts against the Rangers, going 1-5 with a 3.88 ERA and .261 batting average against.

WALK-OFFS

1. Garza's ERA in his six starts with Texas is more than a run higher than it was in 11 outings with the Chicago Cubs.

2. White Sox DH Adam Dunn is one homer shy of reaching 30 for the ninth time in his career.

3. Rangers CF Leonys Martin suffered a right ankle strain in the ninth inning Saturday, but X-rays were negative.

PREDICTION: Rangers 4, White Sox 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
