Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 20, 2013 ) Toronto 2, NY Yankees 3

Two veteran pitchers having difficult seasons face off at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday as the Toronto Blue Jays continue their four-game series against the New York Yankees. National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey gets the call for the Blue Jays, who were swept in Tuesday's series-opening doubleheader. Andy Pettitte counters for the Yankees, who used a Jayson Nix walk-off single in the nightcap to complete the sweep.

Dickey's first season with the Blue Jays has been mostly subpar, though he has pitched better of late - lasting at least seven innings in each of his last three starts while surrendering eight runs over that span. Pettitte has also managed some recent success, allowing four runs (one earned) over 11 innings in his previous two turns. Toronto will likely be without second baseman Maicer Izturis, who left Tuesday's second game with a sprained ankle.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH R.A. Dickey (9-11, 4.49 ERA) vs. Yankees LH Andy Pettitte (8-9, 4.39)

After faring well in three straight starts against American League West opponents, Dickey posted mixed results last time out against Tampa. The 38-year-old knuckleballer allowed four runs on six hits over seven innings while fanning six for the second consecutive start. Dickey is 3-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 44 1/3 career innings against the Yankees, including a 4-3 defeat at Yankee Stadium on April 28.

Pettitte's last three starts prove that baseball is difficult to predict. The 41-year-old lasted 2 1/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox before escaping major damage in 4 1/3 innings versus the powerhouse Detroit Tigers and cruising to a 10-3 victory over the Red Sox in his last outing. Pettitte is quite familiar with the Blue Jays, owning a 23-13 mark with a 4.09 ERA in 44 starts and one relief appearance against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Yankees have a 10-1 edge in the season series.

2. Blue Jays RF Jose Bautista was placed on the 15-day disabled list after Monday's doubleheader with a hip bone bruise.

3. Toronto is 8-23 in its last 31 games against a team with a winning record.

PREDICTION: Yankees 5, Blue Jays 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
