Last Meeting ( Aug 20, 2013 ) LA Dodgers 6, Miami 4

After avoiding their first three-game skid in over two months, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to make it two straight wins when they visit the Miami Marlins for the third contest of their four-game series Wednesday. Los Angeles was in danger of dropping three straight for the first time since June 8-10 as it squandered a 4-1 lead Tuesday. But Yasiel Puig, who entered the contest as part of a double switch two innings earlier, led off the eighth with his 12th home run to put the Dodgers ahead to stay.

The victory was the 11th in 13 contests for first-place Los Angeles, which maintained its 7 1/2-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West. It also raised the Dodgers' record to 3-2 on their seven-game road trip. Miami has won four of seven overall but is 2-3 on its 10-game homestand.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Zack Greinke (11-3, 3.02 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Nathan Eovaldi (2-3, 3.96)

Greinke has been lights out of late, tossing 13 2/3 scoreless innings over his last two starts. The 29-year-old has won each of his last three outings and eight of nine decisions. Greinke, who is 5-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 10 road starts, is 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA in five career appearances (four starts) against the Marlins.

Eovaldi matched a dubious club record Friday, when he surrendered 11 runs (nine earned) over three-plus innings in a loss to the San Francisco Giants. The 23-year-old has not won since defeating the Washington Nationals on July 12, going 0-3 over his last six starts. Eovaldi lost his only career outing against his former club, yielding six runs in three frames at Los Angeles on August 24, 2012.

WALK-OFFS

1. Puig had been hitless in 11 at-bats prior to his tiebreaking homer on Tuesday.

2. Marlins 1B Logan Morrison is riding an eight-game hitting streak.

3. Los Angeles SS Juan Uribe is 10-for-17 on the road trip.

PREDICTION: Dodgers 7, Marlins 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
