Neither the Colorado Rockies nor the San Francisco Giants are entirely pleased with the way their 2015 campaigns have gone. The two National League West foes will try to end their seasons on a positive note when they wrap up the regular season Sunday afternoon in San Francisco.

The defending World Series champion Giants opened strong and were just a half-game back near the end of July, but they've played sub-.500 baseball since the start of August to fade out of the picture. One small factor in San Francisco's lackluster season has been its second straight losing season series against lowly Colorado, which has cemented its third last-place finish in the last four years. The Rockies still lead the series 10-8 after dropping a 3-2 decision to Jake Peavy and the Giants on Saturday. San Francisco will end its season with Matt Cain - who hasn't started since Aug. 25 - on the mound opposite Colorado righty Christian Bergman.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Christian Bergman (3-1, 4.68 ERA) vs. Giants RH Matt Cain (2-4, 6.31)

Bergman is making his fourth start of the season and third in a row. He allowed three runs in five innings of a no-decision at Arizona on Tuesday in his longest outing since going 5 1/3 frames in relief on May 13. Bergman's first start of the year resulted in four scoreless innings at San Francisco on April 14.

Cain has endured a second straight injury-plagued season and has only made two relief appearances this month since coming off the disabled list. Just three of his 10 starts in 2015 have been of the quality variety and he picked up career loss No. 99 in his last start against the Chicago Cubs, allowing six runs in five innings. Cain, who turned 31 on Thursday, is 17-8 with a 3.31 ERA in 34 career starts against Colorado.

1. Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado enters the final day tied with Washington's Bryce Harper for the NL lead with 42 home runs.

2. Giants 2B Kelby Tomlinson has a home run and three doubles in his last four games.

3. San Francisco enters with an NL-leading .267 average and is looking to lead the league in hitting for the first time since 1993.
