Los Angeles @ Toronto preview

Rogers Centre

Last Meeting ( Aug 4, 2013 ) Toronto 6, LA Angels 5

The Toronto Blue Jays look to continue a rare stretch of solid baseball when they open a three-game set at home against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday in a matchup of trendy preseason picks that have fallen flat. Toronto has won 10 of its last 13 and has a chance to record its first four-game winning streak since an 11-game run in June. The Blue Jays completed a 5-1 road trip with a 2-0 triumph at Minnesota on Sunday.

The Angels come to town after dropping a 6-3 decision at the Twins on Monday in the makeup of an April 17 rainout. It was just the second loss in their last 11 road games, a stretch that has seen Los Angeles pitchers produce a 2.41 ERA. The Angels have won or tied the season series five straight years and have won three of the first four meetings in 2013.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jerome Williams (6-10, 4.60 ERA) vs. Blue Jays LH Mark Buehrle (11-7, 3.88)

Williams already has established a career high with 146 2/3 innings and will tie a career high when he makes his 22nd start Tuesday. After a difficult stretch in August, he has recovered to go 1-0 with a 2.93 ERA in his last three outings, one of which involved three innings of relief. The 31-year-old has not faced Toronto this season but allowed only two unearned runs in 6 1/3 frames in his only career appearance in the Rogers Centre.

Buehrle's solid second half continued with another quality start at Arizona on Wednesday, when he allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision. He is 6-1 with a 2.21 ERA since the All-Star break with one of the mediocre outings taking place at the Angels on Aug. 4, when he was reached for five runs in six frames. Buehrle is 8-2 with a 2.72 ERA at home.

WALK-OFFS

1. The next hit Buehrle allows will make him the 126th pitcher in baseball history to surrender 3,000 in his career.

2. Angels OF Peter Bourjos is scheduled to undergo season-ending wrist surgery Tuesday.

3. Los Angeles RF Kole Calhoun is 8-for-14 with a home run, two doubles and two walks in his last four road games.

PREDICTION: Blue Jays 5, Angels 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
