Los Angeles @ Toronto preview

Rogers Centre

Last Meeting ( Sep 10, 2013 ) LA Angels 12, Toronto 6

The Toronto Blue Jays have been receiving superb outings from veteran starters Mark Buehrle and R.A. Dickey in the second half of the season - too late to salvage a playoff run, but still reason for encouragement. After watching Buehrle get shelled in the series opener, Dickey looks to avenge the loss as he leads the Blue Jays into the second contest of a three-game series with the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Los Angeles opened the set with a 12-6 victory.

If Dickey hopes to boast a winning record after Wednesday night, he'll need to solve Mark Trumbo. The Angels' slugger was unbeatable in Tuesday's opener, establishing career bests with five hits and five runs scored. Dickey will be opposed by C.J. Wilson, who is unbeaten in 10 starts since the All-Star break and can equal his single-season career high in victories with a win over the Blue Jays.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, FSW (Los Angeles), RSN (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH C.J. Wilson (15-6, 3.42 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH R.A. Dickey (12-12, 4.29)

Wilson has had several sensational starts in the second half of the season, but his previous encounter with the Blue Jays wasn't one of them. The 32-year-old California native earned a no-decision Aug. 4 in Los Angeles after allowing four runs - three earned - on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings. Wilson is 2-3 with three saves and a 3.55 ERA in six career starts and 10 relief appearances against Toronto.

While it's too late to impact the American League playoff picture, Dickey has had some of his best outings of the season down the stretch. The 37-year-old has won his last three starts, surrendering just six earned runs in 20 2/3 innings over that stretch. Dickey hasn't faced the Angels yet in 2013, but is 3-3 with one save and a 4.29 ERA in six starts and 16 relief outings against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Angels' Nos. 4-6 hitters - Trumbo, Josh Hamilton and Chris Iannetta - went 11-for-14 with three homers, nine runs scored and eight RBIs on Tuesday.

2. Blue Jays DH Adam Lind is 5-for-13 with a homer and three RBIs in his career against Wilson.

3. Toronto has won four of Dickey's last five starts against American League West foes.

PREDICTION: Angels 5, Blue Jays 4

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
