Last Meeting ( Aug 31, 2013 ) San Francisco 3, Arizona 4

After recording their 30th win in the last at-bat, the Arizona Diamondbacks vie for a series victory on Sunday when they face the visiting San Francisco Giants in the finale of a three-game set. Eric Chavez provided the honors on Saturday with an RBI single in the ninth as Arizona rebounded after squandering a three-run lead to post a 4-3 triumph. The Diamondbacks reside six games behind Cincinnati for the second wild-card spot in the National League.

While Martin Prado collected three hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games, Hunter Pence matched the first number to do him one better with the second. Pence will look to keep his hot streak going against Sunday starter Patrick Corbin, who is a blistering 8-1 at home with a slim 1.86 ERA while limiting the opposition to a .203 batting average. Former Diamondback Yusmeiro Petit will take the mound for San Francisco.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN (Arizona)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Yusmeiro Petit (1-0, 3.18 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (13-4, 2.79)

Petit is receiving the start in place of the injured Matt Cain, who is nursing a right forearm contusion. The 28-year-old Venezuelan fared well in his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Fresno, yielding two runs in six innings in a 5-3 triumph over Colorado on Tuesday. Petit, who pitched with Arizona from 2007-09, recorded a 91-to-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio during his 15 starts with Fresno.

Corbin suffered through a start he'd like to forget last Sunday, issuing a career-worst nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings in a 9-5 loss to Philadelphia. The 24-year-old dominated his previous outing, going the distance while striking out 10 in a 5-2 win over the Reds. Corbin has a 1.84 ERA in two no-decisions against the Giants this season, including one in which he allowed one run on three hits in seven innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has walked 12 times in his last six games - including on three occasions Saturday.

2. San Francisco C Buster Posey, who forged a 3-3 tie with an RBI single on Saturday, is 1-for-6 in his career versus Corbin.

3. Giants CF Angel Pagan scored a run for the second straight game since being activated from the 60-disabled list.

PREDICTION: Diamondbacks 3, Giants 1

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
