THE STORY: The Arizona Diamondbacks continue their quest for home-field advantage in the National League Division Series on Sunday, when they attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field. Arizona, which clinched its fifth NL West title on Friday, trails the NL Central-champion Milwaukee Brewers by one game for the second-best record in the senior circuit. Chase Field lost power for 28 minutes on Saturday, but the Diamondbacks had plenty of it as they matched a season high in runs with a 15-2 triumph. PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Tim Lincecum (13-13, 2.59 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Josh Collmenter (9-10, 3.42 ERA).
Lincecum suffered his third loss in four decisions Tuesday despite allowing just two runs in seven innings at Los Angeles. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has yielded three earned runs or less in 16 of his last 18 outings. Lincecum is 7-4 lifetime against Arizona but 0-2 in three meetings this season. San Francisco has provided a total of two runs of support in those matchups.
Collmenter is coming off his second straight loss as he allowed three runs over seven innings at San Diego on Sept. 17. he has surrendered more than three earned runs once in his last eight starts but is just 3-3 during that span. Collmenter made his only career start against the Giants on June 14, when he was reached for five runs in five innings.
ABOUT THE GIANTS (84-74): San Francisco became the first team since the 2007 St. Louis Cardinals to miss the playoffs the season after winning the World Series. The Giants, who are 5-4 on their 10-game road trip, would finish with their second straight winning record away from home with a win on Sunday. They enter the series finale at 40-40 on the road this season. Carlos Beltran had his 11-game hitting streak snapped Saturday. San Francisco has lost seven of its last nine meetings with Arizona but is 9-8 overall this season against the Diamondbacks.
ABOUT THE DIAMONDBACKS (92-66): In addition to its season high-tying run output, Arizona tied a franchise high Saturday by drawing 13 walks. The Diamondbacks also were issued 13 free passes in a 13-inning battle with Houston on June 5, 2002. While Lincecum has dominated Chris Young (7-for-46, .152) and Miguel Montero (5-for-40, .125), rookie Paul Goldschmidt has gone 3-for-6 against the righthander with two home runs and four RBIs.
FINAL PITCH: Jarrod Parker is expected to make his major-league debut on Tuesday against Los Angeles. Parker, who was selected ninth overall in the 2007 draft, went 11-8 for Double-A Mobile this year after missing 2010 following Tommy John surgery.
