Golden State @ Orlando preview

Kia Center

Last Meeting ( Feb 28, 2019 ) Golden State 96, Orlando 103

The Golden State Warriors need to play at their best to earn wins with three All-Stars on the shelf and can't seem to find that level consistently. The Warriors will try to bounce back from another loss when they visit the Orlando Magic in the second of a five-game road trip on Sunday.

Golden State snapped a three-game slide with a 104-90 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday but fell short in their quest to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they allowed the Miami Heat to shoot 53.7 percent from the floor in a 122-105 setback on Friday. "People punish us when we start getting sloppy, and we start getting selfish," Warriors center Omari Spellman told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Those are all the things that I know Coach (Steve Kerr) is going to ask us to clean up, so that's how we move forward." The Magic are dealing with their own injury issues and fell for the fourth time in five games while scoring a season low and committing 24 turnovers in a 90-83 setback at home against Toronto on Friday. "Pretty simple, obviously," Orlando coach Steve Clifford told reporters. "I thought our effort was good, our defense was more than good enough to win, but the game was the turnovers. They're third in points off turnovers and you're just not going to beat a team that good turning the ball over that much."

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (4-16): Far removed from the championship glory of its recent past, Golden State is trying to grow a young team while hopefully rebuilding a supporting cast that can take it back to the playoffs when stars Stephen Curry (hand), Klay Thompson (knee) and D'Angelo Russell (thumb) return to lead the way. Rookie shooting guard Jordan Poole took a step toward proving he can be one of those contributors when he matched a season high with 20 points while going 5-of-6 from 3-point range on Friday. "It's always great to see the ball go in the hoop to give you confidence," Kerr told reporters of Poole. "He's showing what he can do in terms of scoring and shooting from long range. This is the kind of game he needs to have to keep his spirits up."

ABOUT THE MAGIC (7-11): Orlando is missing All-Star center Nikola Vucevic (ankle) but got forward Aaron Gordon back from an ankle injury on Friday. Gordon, who missed three games, was a little rusty while going 2-of-11 from the floor in 32 minutes and finished with eight points and eight rebounds but served as the lone Magic player without a turnover. "I felt all right, but a little bit fatigued and my wind was a little shaky. But I felt fine," Gordon, who continued a downward trend with his shooting and is now 16-of-57 from the field over his last five games, told reporters.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Magic PG Markelle Fultz scored in double figures in each of his last seven games, raising his average to 11.6 points.

2. Golden State PF Kevon Looney (general soreness) is traveling with the team and getting closer to making a return.

3. Orlando snapped an 11-game losing streak in the series with a 103-96 home win on Feb. 28.

PREDICTION: Magic 106, Warriors 98
