Duncan Robinson scored 19 points off the bench, and No. 17 Michigan recorded its fourth straight victory, downing Penn State 72-63 on Wednesday at Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa.
Moritz Wagner had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Jordan Poole tossed in 13 points for the Wolverines (23-7, 12-5 Big Ten) in the road win. Zavier Simpson chipped in nine points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals while Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman added nine points for Michigan.
Tony Carr led the Nittany Lions (19-11, 9-8) with 21 points and six assists. Lamar Stevens supplied 19 points and eight rebounds.
The Wolverines shot 45.1 percent from the field while Penn State made 42.4 percent of its attempts. Bench scoring was the difference, as Michigan's reserves outscored their counterparts 34-6.
Poole, one of those reserves, was also instrumental in the Wolverines' 74-62 victory over No. 8 Ohio State in Michigan's home finale Sunday. He scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half against the school's biggest rival.
Penn State was playing its third straight ranked opponent. It defeated Ohio State, then fell to No. 6 Purdue.
Michigan used an 18-7 run to open up a double-digit lead late in the first half. Poole was the catalyst, scoring eight points during that span.
The Wolverines led 34-26 at halftime. The Nittany Lions reeled off 10 unanswered points early in the second half to take a 41-38 lead. Carr scored six of those points and also fed Stevens for an alley-oop dunk to cap it off.
With the score tied at 46-all, Michigan went on a 10-2 run. Abdur-Rahkman's 3-pointer got it started, and Poole also made a trey during that span.
Abdur-Rahkman's layup with under two minutes left made it 60-54. Robinson then buried a 3-pointer in transition. Carr's 3-pointer with 51 seconds left cut Penn State's deficit to six. The Wolverines closed it out with free throws.
The Wolverines complete their regular season with a road game against Maryland on Saturday afternoon while Penn State faces Nebraska on the road Sunday.
