Senior guard Devonte Green scored a career-high 30 points, lifting Indiana to an 80-64 win over No. 17 Florida State in a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game on Tuesday in Bloomington, Ind.
The Hoosiers (8-0) overcame 12 turnovers in the second half and 18 for the game to remain perfect on the season. Freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis added 15 points and eight rebounds for Indiana, while junior forward Justin Smith scored 14 points.
Senior guard Trent Forrest led Florida State (7-2) with 13 points. Guards M.J. Walker and Devin Vassell added 10 points apiece for the Seminoles, who saw their seven-game win streak end.
Florida State cut an 11-point Indiana halftime lead to three points about midway through the second half and was down 62-58 after a put-back basket by Forrest with 6:04 left. However, Indiana responded with an 11-0 run fueled by a pair of baskets from Green and a 3-pointer from sophomore forward Damezi Anderson to put the game away.
Green scored 14 points in the first half, and the Hoosiers jumped to a 41-30 halftime lead.
Florida State raced to an early 11-4 lead on a short jumper in the paint by center Dominik Olejniczak, but the Hoosiers responded with a 12-0 run by holding the Seminoles scoreless for about six minutes.
Jackson-Davis gave the Hoosiers their first lead, 12-11, on a transition layup. Green and freshman guard Armaan Franklin added layups to extend Indiana's lead to 16-11.
After Florida State cut Indiana's advantage to 22-20 lead on a RaiQuan Gray jumper, the Hoosiers went on a 9-0 run, sparked by a three-point play from Smith and back to back 3-pointers from Green.
Green's third 3-pointer of the first half put Indiana up 34-22. and the Hoosiers led by as many as 15 points before Florida State was able to put together a run before halftime.
Vassell hit a 3-ponter to cut Indiana's lead to 37-27, then a free throw to cut the Hoosiers' edge to 39-30 with 33 seconds left. Indiana held for the final shot, and Smith was able to hit a turnaround jumper at the shot-clock buzzer, putting the Hoosiers up by 11 at halftime.
