Desmond Bane scored 21 of his 30 points in the first half to propel TCU to an 87-53 victory over George Mason in a nonconference game Monday night at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Bane set the tone early for the Horned Frogs (9-3) by making 8 of 11 shots from the field in the first half, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. He finished shooting 12 of 16 from the field, 5 of 7 from beyond the arc.
Bane had a blocked shot and a steal in the first half as well as three rebounds and two assists. He finished with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
P.J. Fuller added 12 points and four assists for the Horned Frogs.
George Mason (11-2) saw its six-game winning streak snapped. The Patriots were led by Jordan Miller's 15 points and Xavier Johnson's 14 off the bench.
TCU had only two turnovers in the first half as it built a 48-26 halftime lead. George Mason, on the other hand, had seven turnovers that resulted in 11 points for the Horned Frogs. TCU finished with 14 turnovers while the Patriots had 13.
The Patriots were also beset by no first-half points or rebounds by guard Javon Greene, who was whistled for three fouls before halftime. Greene entered the game averaging 13.4 points and 6.8 rebounds a game.
He fouled out with 3:36 left with only one point, no rebounds and four turnovers.
TCU never trailed after taking a 10-0 lead with 15:38 left in the first half. The Patriots did not score until 14:41 remaining before halftime.
The lead ballooned to 26-8 with 8:20 left in the first half on a Bane 3-pointer.
TCU next opens the Big 12 portion of its schedule at home Saturday against Iowa State. George Mason starts its Atlantic 10 schedule Sunday at home against VCU.
