Senior guard Devonte Green scored 19 points off the bench, lifting Indiana to a 66-54 upset of No. 11 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind.
Sophomore point guard Rob Phinisee added 13 points and seven rebounds as the Hoosiers (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten) were able to pull away down the stretch and improve to 11-1 at home this season.
Senior forward Andre Wesson led Ohio State (11-5, 1-4) with 15 points. Junior center Kaleb Wesson added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Buckeyes, who dropped their fourth straight game. Ohio State shot 32.7 percent from the floor and was held to just 20 points in the second half.
Green's 3-pointer with 2:52 left extended the lead to 60-50 for Indiana, which improved to 2-1 against ranked teams this season.
Phinisee helped the Hoosiers get off to a strong start, making his first three 3-point attempts to help IU jump to a quick 13-5 lead. But after Indiana went up 25-16 on Green's layup with 9:57 remaining in the half, the Hoosiers were held to just one point over the next 6:47.
Ohio State tied the score at 26-26 on Luther Muhammad's 3-pointer, then went up 31-26 on CJ Walker's trey with 3:32 left in the half.
Indiana came back to tie the score at 31 on a pair of free throws from forward Jerome Hunter. But Kaleb Wesson made a late 3-pointer to put the Buckeyes up 34-31 at halftime. Indiana was hurt by poor free throw shooting in the first half, going 9 of 17 from the foul line.
Junior forward Kyle Young returned to the lineup for Ohio State after missing the last two games due to his appendix being removed. He finished with one point and three rebounds.
Freshman guard D.J. Carton scored 10 points off the Buckeyes' bench.
