Tyler Bey had 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists and reserve Lucas Siewert had 14 points and four 3-pointers as the No. 20 Colorado Buffaloes built a double-digit lead early in the second half and nursed it to a 68-61 Pac-12 victory over the host Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday.
McKinley Wright IV had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists and Shane Gatling had 10 points and a pair of threes for the Buffaloes (14-3, 3-1), who have won seven of eight.
Remy Martin had 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Romello White had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Taeshon Cherry had a career-high eight rebounds for the Sun Devils (10-7, 1-3), who were playing their Pac-12 home opener.
Colorado opened the second half on a 16-4 run to take a 44-32 lead after Evan Battey hit two free throws with 10:35 remaining following a 3-pointer by Gatling. The Sun Devils made only two of their first 20 field-goal attempts in the second half, both by White, and went 4:57 without scoring. Colorado made two of its first 10 field goals in the second half before getting hot.
Edwards' 3-pointer brought Arizona State within five at 49-44 with 7:07 left before Siewert hit his fourth 3-pointer and Bey followed with a jumper to make it 54-44. Arizona State never was closer than seven until the final minute.
Colorado is 2-6 at Arizona State since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, its only other victory coming in 2012. Colorado won the first meeting this season, 81-71, in Shanghai, China, on Nov. 8, a game that did not count in the Pac-12 standings. The Sun Devils shot 38.5 percent from the floor in that game.
White was 9 of 12 from the field but the rest of the Sun Devils were 15 of 58. Martin was 9 of 23 and made four 3-pointers. Reserve Rob Edwards had eight points on 3-of-12 shooting and starter Alonzo Verge Jr. had seven points while going 2 of 13.
