Senior guard Isaiah Moss came off the bench to score 10 of his 13 points in the second half Wednesday and help No. 3 Kansas rally past No. 14 West Virginia 58-49 at Morgantown, W.Va.
Four steals by junior guard Marcus Garrett over a four-minute span of the second half enabled the Jayhawks (21-3, 10-1 Big 12) to overcome a nine-point, second half deficit.
Garrett finished with nine points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists as Kansas claimed its ninth straight win.
The Jayhawks' two candidates for National Player of the Year honors each struggled at times.
Senior center Udoka Azubuike, who came in averaging a double-double in Big 12 play, managed only six points and seven rebounds. Sophomore point guard Devon Dotson went 4 of 13 but still posted 15 points, 11 of those in the final 20 minutes.
The Jayhawks enjoyed a 13-1 flurry to close the game as the Mountaineers missed all but one of their final 12 shots, including their last nine, and committed nine turnovers in the last eight minutes.
Freshman forward Oscar Tshiebwe recorded 14 points and nine rebounds to lead West Virginia, which tumbled for the first time in 13 home games. Sophomore guard Jordan McCabe added 10 points.
The Mountaineers forged a 38-27 advantage on the glass but committed 19 turnovers.
Kansas climbed to 6-0 in conference road games while remaining a game behind Baylor atop the Big 12.
Tshiebwe led all scorers with 12 first-half points before drawing his second foul with 1:29 remaining. The Mountaineers gained a 30-24 halftime lead despite shooting 35.5 percent and missing 12 of their last 15 attempts.
Azubuike drew two early fouls in the first half was held to two points before the break. His backup, sophomore David McCormack, got tagged with three first-half fouls. Sophomore guard Ochai Agbaji scored just five first-half points but led the Jayhawks, who went 1 of 8 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
Kansas freshman guard Jalen Wilson, who has been out since sustaining an ankle injury in a November game against UNC Greensboro, will not return this season, coach Bill Self revealed.
