Texas Tech raced past Wofford in the first half and stiff-armed the Terriers the rest of the way as the Red Raiders claimed a 79-56 victory on Wednesday night at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
Guard Jarrett Culver scored 21 points off the bench to lead Texas Tech (5-0). Red Raiders point guard Keenan Evans had 12 to join Culver in double-digit scoring. They were the only Texas Tech players to reach double figures, though four other Red Raiders had eight or more.
Guard Nathan Hoover paced Wofford with 16 points and fellow guard Fletcher Magee added 14.
Wofford (3-3) took an early 6-5 lead when Magee hit a mid-range jumper with 16:15 left in the first half.
But Texas Tech used a squad of five bench players to ignite the game's defining run.
Backup point guard Brandone Francis nailed a 3-pointer from the right corner to give the Red Raiders a 17-10 lead with 13:30 left until the break.
Culver followed with treys on back-to-back trips down the floor and the surge was off and running.
The Red Raiders held Wofford scoreless for more than eight minutes. In that time, Texas Tech used a 26-2 run to take control of the game.
Starting forward Zach Smith completed a 3-point play to give Texas Tech its largest lead of the first half at 48-16 with 1:07 to go until halftime.
Culver led Texas Tech with 14 points in the first half. The Red Raiders scored 30 bench points in taking a 50-22 lead to the break.
Magee scored 12 to lead the Terriers in the first half. But Wofford shot 33 percent from the field and committed 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Texas Tech scored 16 points off of Wofford miscues in the first half.
The Terriers outscored the Red Raiders, 34-29, in the second half.
