Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 23 points, Mac McClung added 22 and No. 10 Texas Tech overcame a seven-point deficit in the final minute to defeat LSU 76-71 in the SEC/Big 12 Basketball Challenge on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La.
Kevin McCullar added 10 points for the Red Raiders (12-5, 4-4 Big 12), who scored the final 12 points of the game against an LSU team that had scored the final 18 in defeating Texas A&M on Tuesday.
Javonte Smart tied his career high with 29 points to lead the Tigers (11-5, 6-3 SEC). Cameron Thomas had 25 points and Darius Days added 11 before leaving the game in the second half with an apparent ankle injury.
Smart gave LSU a 66-60 lead with back-to-back 3-pointers.
Shannon made a free throw and Kyler Edwards followed with a 3-pointer to get Texas Tech within 66-64 with 3:11 left.
Thomas made a 3-pointer and Shareef O'Neal added a tip-in to give LSU a 71-64 lead with 1:14 left.
McClung made a 3-pointer, LSU's Josh LeBlanc Sr. missed the front end of a one-and-one and McClung hit another 3-pointer to get the Red Raiders within 71-70 with 32 seconds left.
Shannon made a steal and layup to give Texas Tech the lead with 20 seconds left and he added four free throws.
LSU led by a point at halftime and claimed a 40-34 advantage on Trendon Watford's jumper early in the second half.
Jamarius Burton converted a three-point play and Edwards and Shannon each made a 3-pointer as Texas Tech grabbed a 45-42 lead.
The Tigers scored the next six points before Shannon made consecutive baskets to give the Red Raiders a 49-48 lead.
The lead changed hands four times before Thomas' three-point play tied the score at 56 with 8:47 remaining.
The score was tied again at 58 and 60.
LSU led by eight points in the first half before McClung scored six points during a 14-7 run by the Red Raiders that cut the Tigers lead to 33-32 at halftime.
