Emanuel Miller finished with game highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Texas A&M Aggies jumped on Southeastern Louisiana Lions early en route to a 69-52 win Tuesday night in College Station, Texas.
Andre Gordon added 10 points and Savion Flagg finished with nine, all in the first half, for the Aggies (4-1), who shot 53.2 percent for the game. They finished 4 of 15 on 3-point attempts,
The Lions (1-6), who shot only 37 percent from the floor and had 16 turnovers, were led by Keon Clergeot with 14 points, though he hit only 4 of 12 shots from the floor. Nick Caldwell finished with 11 points, all in the second half.
Texas A&M led by 12 at halftime and began to pull away about five minutes into the second half. A 10-2 run began with a layup by Hassan Diarra and concluded with a slam by Quenton Jackson off an alley-oop from Jay Jay Chandler, pushing the lead to 46-28 with 11:22 left in the game.
The Aggies pushed the margin to 20 on a jumper from Miller with 9:36 left.
The Lions trimmed the deficit to 12 with an 8-0 run, including two of Caldwell's bombs, with 6:12 left.
Miller and Kevin Marfo hit layups to push the lead back to 16 with just over four minutes left.
Southeastern Louisiana shot only 38.5 percent from the field and had nine turnovers in the first half. The Aggies, who made 10 of their first 18 shots from the floor, twice led by 15.
The Lions managed a 6-0 run, including a 3-pointer by Clergeot, to pull within nine at 28-19, but Miller's three-point play with 16 seconds left widened the lead to 31-19 at halftime.
Miller and Flagg each scored nine in the half for the Aggies, with Miller going 4 of 6 from the floor and Flagg hitting all three of his shots, which included two treys.
The Aggies shot 54.5 percent from the field in the first half, but they let Southeastern Louisiana hang around in part because they had eight turnovers, four of them in the final four minutes of the half. The Lions also stayed close on the boards, trailing the Aggies 14-11 at the break.
Gus Okafor led Southeastern Louisiana at halftime with four points and three rebounds.
