Aaron Henry filled the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four blocks, and 13th-ranked Michigan State had a 26-0 run spanning the first and second halves to overwhelm Notre Dame 80-70 at East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday.
Rocket Watts supplied 13 points and six assists and Joey Hauser contributed 10 points, 16 rebounds and four assists for Michigan State. Gabe Brown added nine points and made five steals, while Joshua Langford chipped in eight points.
The Spartans (2-0) led by as much as 28 points and were up double digits throughout the second half. They held Notre Dame to 35 percent shooting while making 12 blocks and nine steals. Michigan State's bench outscored the Irish's reserves 39-6.
The Spartans, who defeated Eastern Michigan in their opener on Wednesday, controlled the boards 48-36. They shot 42.9 percent from the field against the Irish despite making just 31.8 percent of their 3-point attempts.
Prentiss Hubb led Notre Dame with 23 points. Cormac Ryan had 13 points, while Nate Laszewski and Dane Goodwin added 12 points apiece.
The Irish lost their opener for the second straight season.
The Fighting Irish were held scoreless in the last 7:12 of the first half as the Spartans finished with a 17-0 outburst. Michigan State led 39-26 at halftime behind its active defense. It blocked 10 shots and made six steals prior to the break while Notre Dame missed its last 12 field-goal attempts.
Marcus Bingham scored five points during the Spartans' run and Brown threw down two alley-oops from Watts.
Langford and Henry knocked down 3-pointers and Foster Loyer converted a three-point play to complete the Spartans' 26-0 run. Ryan's free throws with 18:05 left finally ended the Irish's scoring drought, which lasted more than nine minutes.
Notre Dame scored the last seven points of the game to make the final margin more respectable.
