Quincy Guerrier scored a team-high 20 points and Alan Griffin posted a double-double as Syracuse pulled away from No. 16 Virginia Tech for a 78-60 victory in Atlantic Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y.
Griffin also blocked seven shots to add to his 15 points and 10 rebounds. Marek Dolezaj had 18 points as the Orange (9-4, 3-3 ACC) outscored the Hokies 38-26 in the second half as the Hokies struggled.
The Orange's biggest lead was 78-53 entering the final two minutes.
With leading scorer Keve Aluma scoreless the first 20 minutes, the Hokies (11-3, 5-2) were led by Nahiem Alleyne, who scored 20 points with 17 coming in the first half. He hit five 3-pointers.
Dolezaj scored 14 of his points in a first half that ended with the Orange up only 40-34.
Aluma had a 14.8 scoring average coming into the game but finished with only two points on 1 of 10 shooting.
Each team went on double-digit scoring runs in the first half, with the Orange going on an 11-0 spurt to take a 15-10 lead early and the Hokies responding a few minutes later with a 10-0 run for a 26-21 lead.
The score was tied three times in the early going, the last at 31-31 before the Orange closed out the period with the six-point halftime lead.
