Ayo Dosunmu had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists to record the third triple-double in school history, and Kofi Cockburn had 23 points and 14 rebounds as host No. 12 Illinois downed No. 19 Wisconsin 75-60 in a Big Ten game Saturday in Champaign, Ill.
Dosunmu, who set a career high for assists, joins Mark Smith (1979) and Sergio McClain (2001) as the only players in Illinois history to post a triple-double. He and Cockburn paced the Illini (13-5, 9-3), who shot 52.8 percent from the field and played one of their best defensive games of the season to win their fourth straight after losing two in a row.
Illinois also snapped a seven-game home losing streak to Wisconsin (14-6, 8-5), which has lost three of its past five.
D'Mitrik Trice scored 22 for the Badgers, who went 4-of-24 from 3-point range, committed 11 turnovers and were outrebounded 46-19. Wisconsin trailed by 16 early in the second half, but a Trice 3-point play got the visitors within 57-50 with over eight minutes remaining.
However, Dosunmu hit a pair of free throws, Cockburn threw down his eighth dunk of the game and Da'Monte Williams extended Illinois' lead to 14 with a 3-pointer.
Dosunmu and Cockburn were dominant out of the gate for the Illini, who also won four straight from Dec. 23-Jan. 7. Illinois' star duo combined for 25 points and 18 rebounds during a first half in which the hosts shot 48.3 percent and held a 27-11 advantage on the glass.
Illinois also held Wisconsin to 9-for-30 shooting over the first 20 minutes. The Illini had a 10-2 run late in the first half, thanks to a stretch of four points from Cockburn and three from his backup, Giorgi Bezhanishvili.
The Badgers did not help themselves by going 0-for-9 from 3-point range to trail 36-23 at the break. Wisconsin missed its first 10 from distance before Nate Reuvers (11 points) connected with 18:05 left in the second half to get the visitors within 43-30.
