Warith Alatishe made an uncontested dunk off a pass from Ethan Thompson with 4.5 seconds left to give Oregon State an 80-79 win over Arizona State on Saturday in a Pac-12 game at Corvallis, Ore.
Following a timeout, ASU's Remy Martin missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Oregon State (6-5, 2-3 Pac-12) snapped a four-game losing streak to ASU (4-6, 1-3). The Beavers are 3-4 against ASU in their last seven meetings with all the games decided by six points or less.
Saturday's game featured 17 ties and 20 lead changes.
Jarod Lucas scored 15 of his team-high 18 points in the first half and Thompson had 17 points and five assists for Oregon State.
ASU's Marcus Bagley scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half. Fellow freshman Josh Christopher finished with 14 points and seven rebounds and Martin had 14 points and eight assists.
ASU had 22 assists and only four turnovers.
Martin and Jaelen House returned to action after missing last week's losses at home against UCLA and USC. Martin was out because of a death in the family and House was under COVID-19 contact-tracing protocol.
Taeshon Cherry (personal reasons after COVID-19 protocol) and Jalen Graham (mononucleosis) missed their third straight game.
After Rodrigue Andela made two free throws to give Oregon State a 73-72 lead with 1:44 left, Martin answered with two free throws 17 seconds later to put the Sun Devils back ahead.
Gianni Hunt then made a jumper in the lane to give the Beavers a 75-74 lead with 1:07 remaining.
Martin was fouled with 41.3 seconds left while taking a driving shot in the lane, and he made two free throws to again give ASU the lead.
Lucas was then fouled by Alonzo Verge Jr. while taking a 3-pointer. Verge, who had eight points and eight assists, fouled out on the play. Lucas, a 95 percent free throw shooter, gave Oregon State a 78-76 lead with the three free throws with 28.7 seconds left.
Bagley made his third 3-pointer of the second half to put ASU ahead 79-78 with 10.7 seconds left. Alatishe followed with his game-winning dunk all alone following the pass from Thompson.
