Terrell Brown Jr. scored a career-best 32 points on 13-of-18 shooting to lead Washington to an 87-76 victory over South Dakota State in the Crossover Classic on Tuesday night at Sioux Falls, S.D.
PJ Fuller added 14 points, Emmitt Matthews Jr. had 13 and Jamal Bey tallied 12 as the Huskies (4-2) won their second straight game in the round-robin event.
Noah Freidel scored 20 points for the Jackrabbits (5-2). Douglas Wilson recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds and Baylor Scheierman added 14 points as South Dakota State fell to 1-1 in the three-game event.
Brown scored 21 points in the second half, including 15 consecutive Washington points during a 4:37 stretch that ended with 6:03 remaining.
The Huskies made 58.3 percent of their field-goal attempts on the night and were 10 of 22 (45.5 percent) from 3-point range.
South Dakota State connected on 46 percent of its shots, including 6 of 17 (35.3 percent) from behind the arc.
Washington led 49-36 after a dunk by Daejon Davis with 16:01 remaining.
Two-plus minutes later, Wilson scored on a layup and Freidel made three free throws after being fouled shooting a trey as the Jackrabbits moved within 53-46 with 13:17 left.
After Fuller scored for Washington, South Dakota State received a ferocious driving dunk by Freidel and a layup by Wilson to pull within 55-50 with 11:49 left.
The Huskies pushed their lead back to nine before the Jackrabbits made another charge and trimmed their deficit to 65-61 with 7:55 remaining.
Brown responded with a three-point play 22 seconds later and added two more baskets to end his run of 15 straight Huskies points as the lead grew to 72-64 with 6:03 left.
Fuller scored the next five Washington points and the lead was 77-69 with 4:28 remaining.
A dunk by Matthews made it 87-74 and ended the suspense with 1:07 left.
Brown and Matthews each scored 11 points as the Huskies led 42-32 at the break.
Brown's layup capped an early 8-0 burst as Washington led 15-7.
South Dakota State rattled off the next five points before the Huskies scored 17 of 25 points to take a 32-20 lead on Brown's jumper with 5:24 remaining in the half.
