Damion Baugh and Mike Miles scored 13 points each as TCU played with poise and execution in the final 10 minutes in a 71-63 victory over visiting Oral Roberts on Thursday in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Horned Frogs (6-1) led by 17 points in the first half and by 10 at halftime but briefly surrendered the lead after a torrid start to the second half by the Golden Eagles. TCU bounced back with a 12-3 run to take charge by eight points with 7:10 to play and played stout defense, holding Oral Roberts to 1-of-8 shooting down the stretch.
Charles O'Bannon Jr. added 12 points and Emanuel Miller scored 10 as the Horned Frogs won their third straight and stayed perfect at home this season.
Max Abmas led all scorers with 20 points, with Francis Lacis adding 14, all in the first half, for Oral Roberts (4-4).
The Horned Frogs were on fire early, forging an 11-2 lead on O'Bannon's 3-pointer at the 14:43 mark of the first half and then using a 9-0 run to go up by 17 points with 8:31 to play in the half. The Golden Eagles got back in the game via a 19-12 spurt of their own in which they hit six of their final eight shots from the floor over the rest of the half to claw to within 39-29 at intermission.
O'Bannon paced the Horned Frogs with 10 points over the first 20 minutes of play. TCU earned a 23-16 edge in rebounding that included 11 offensive boards and 13 second-chance points.
Lacis led all scorers with 14 points in the half while Abmas had just five points for Oral Roberts on 2 of 7 shooting from the floor.
Oral Roberts came all the way back and more, taking a 52-51 lead on Kareem Thompson's layup with 10:43 to play in the game. The Horned Frogs responded, scoring 12 of the next 15 points. Miles' 3-pointer gave TCU a 63-55 advantage with 7:10 remaining.
