Iverson Molinar scored 17 points, three teammates scored in double figures and Mississippi State never trailed in a 75-60 nonconference victory over Lamar on Thursday in Starkville, Miss.
Rocket Watts added 15 points, Tolu Smith had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Garrison Brooks tallied 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-1), who led by as many as 19 points.
C.J. Roberts scored 25 and Davion Buster added 17 to lead the Cardinals (1-7), who lost their seventh consecutive game.
MSU made 18 of 27 free throws and Lamar made just 6 of 11. The Bulldogs had a 44-24 advantage in rebounds.
Molinar and Brooks made back-to-back layups to give the Bulldogs a 42-32 lead early in the second half.
MSU led by 11 three times before Watts made a 3-pointer to push the lead to 55-41 midway through the half.
Buster made a layup, but Smith scored five points as the Bulldogs increased the lead to 62-43.
Avontez Ledet made consecutive 3-pointers and Ellis Jefferson added two free throws to pull the Cardinals within 62-51.
Molinar scored five points during a 6-0 run that gave MSU a 17-point lead with three minutes remaining.
Molinar made a jumper and a 3-pointer as the Bulldogs opened with an 11-2 lead. They increased the margin to 16-4 on a jumper by Watts.
Roberts made a 3-pointer and Buster added a jumper as the Cardinals got within 16-9.
MSU rebuilt the lead to 12 before Buster made a jumper and a 3-pointer to trim the lead to 23-16.
D.J. Jeffries answered with a dunk and the Bulldogs rebuilt the lead to 11. Buster made two 3-pointers as Lamar got within 31-26.
MSU rebuilt the lead to 10 before Roberts hit a jumper with two seconds left to trim the Bulldogs' lead to 38-30 at halftime.
