D'Shawn Schwartz scored 21 points, Josh Oduro added 20 and 11 rebounds and George Mason rode a fast start to an 80-67 victory over host Georgia in a nonconference game on Saturday in Athens, Ga.
George Mason (6-5), which also got 13 points from Davonte Gaines and 10 from DeVon Cooper, led by as many as 16 points midway through the first half and never trailed while cruising to its second straight victory.
Schwartz shot 8-for-14 from the field, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range, while Gaines, Cooper and Jamal Hartwell II each hit a pair of 3-pointers. The Patriots shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the field and 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from beyond the arc.
Oduro, who scored 13 second-half points, had six of the Patriots' seven blocks, while Xavier Johnson had nine assists and seven rebounds to go along with six points.
Georgia (4-6) was led by Braelen Bridges' 13 points and seven rebounds and Noah Baumann's 11 points that included him going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Jaxon Etter each added nine points, while Kario Oquendo chipped in eight.
The Bulldogs, who ended a two-game winning streak, shot 33.9 percent (20-for-59) from the field and 31 percent (9-for-29) from distance.
George Mason jumped out to a 19-4 lead after Cooper's jumper with a little less than six minutes into the game.
The Patriots carried the hot start to a 38-30 lead at halftime. Schwartz finished with 14 first-half points on 5-for-9 shooting, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Gaines added nine points for the Patriots, who shot 50 percent (14-for-28) from the field that included making 6-of-16 shots from beyond the arc.
Georgia was led by Baumann and Bridges, who scored eight and seven points, respectively. The Bulldogs shot 34.4 percent (11-for-32) from the field and 35.7 percent (5-for-14) from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.
