Justin Lewis scored 20 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds as host Marquette knocked off No. 20 Xavier with a 75-64 victory Sunday in Milwaukee.
The freshman shot 7 of 14 from the field and drained 4 of 7 from long distance. He had eight more rebounds than anyone else on the team.
Darryl Morsell contributed 19 points and seven assists for the Golden Eagles (14-6, 6-3 Big East), who avenged an 80-71 road loss to the Musketeers last month and posted their third straight win over a ranked team. Following a home victory against then-No. 20 Seton Hall, Marquette knocked off No. 11 Villanova on the road Wednesday as Lewis drained the decisive 3-pointer with 11.5 seconds to play.
Paul Scruggs had 13 points to lead Xavier (14-4, 4-3), which did not shoot well from the field (38.7 percent) or the 3-point arc (6 of 23). Adam Kunkel and Colby Jones, with 12 points apiece, were the only other Musketeers to score in double figures.
The Musketeers broke open a tight game with a 10-3 run that turned a one-point lead into a 68-60 advantage with 4:12 remaining. Lewis and Oso Ighodaro each scored four points during the surge.
Kam Jones' 3-pointer with 38 seconds left sealed the win. He finished with 12 points off the bench.
Marquette led 33-29 following a first half in which Lewis scored 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting. The Golden Eagles trailed 14-13 when Lewis' layup flipped the scoreboard in their favor. The bucket also began a 16-6 run that gave the hosts a bit of separation.
Lewis made two 3-pointers during the surge, including one that gave Marquette a 29-20 advantage.
Kunkel had five points in the final two minutes of the first half to help the visitors get within 33-29 at the break. He led Xavier with 10 first-half points.
The game was close during the early portions of the second hand before Marquette began to pull away en route to its sixth straight win.
