No. 19 Southern California rallied from an eight-point deficit midway through the second half to beat Arizona State 58-53 on Thursday in Tempe, Ariz.
The Trojans (19-3, 9-3 Pac-12) charged to a 14-2 lead in the game's first 4:47. Over the next 24 minutes, Arizona State outscored USC 38-18.
The Sun Devils (6-13, 2-7) stifled the Trojans' offense, holding USC to just 18-of-60 shooting (30 percent) from the floor on the night. Arizona State capitalized enough to eventually surge ahead to its biggest lead with a 9-1 run and lead 40-32 with 11:16 left in the game.
Jalen Graham, who scored a team-high 19 points, bookended the Sun Devils flurry with a pair of layups.
USC's offense came alive over the final 11 minutes. Aided by its 3-point defense, which held Arizona State to just 3-of-21 shooting overall, USC closed the game on a 26-13 surge and made eight field goals in the stretch, nearly half of the 18 the team made for the game.
Max Agbonkpolo capped a 10-2 spurt that started the Trojans' game-ending run with a 3-pointer that pulled USC even at 42-all. Agbonkpolo finished with seven points.
Isaiah Mobley scored five of his 12 points on consecutive baskets down the stretch, and Boogie Ellis notched the Trojans' final seven points -- five of which came at the free-throw line -- to seal the win.
Ellis scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and went 7-for-8 at the foul line.
USC's Drew Peterson struggled on offense, scoring six points on 1-of-6 shooting from the floor, but he pulled down 13 rebounds. Mobley snagged nine rebounds, and Chevez Goodwin added seven rebounds to go with nine points.
Kimani Lawrence finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for Arizona State. Lawrence and Graham accounted for nine and seven made field goals, respectively -- all but six of the Sun Devils' total as they went 22 of 67 (32.8 percent) from the field.
DJ Horne, the Sun Devils' leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, scored just four points and shot 1 of 12 from the field, including 1-of-8 from 3-point range.
