Hunter Tyson collected 29 points and 10 rebounds as host Clemson cruised to a 91-73 victory over Syracuse in Wednesday's Atlantic Coast Conference action.
PJ Hall pitched in 16 points and Brevin Galloway had 15 for the Tigers (20-8, 12-5 ACC), who had lost four of their previous five games. Chase Hunter (13 points, 11 assists) and Ian Schieffelin (10 points, eight boards, six assists) also made key contributions for Clemson.
The Orange (16-12, 9-8) dropped their second straight following a three-game winning streak. Judah Mintz (23 points), Jesse Edwards (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Joe Girard (11 points) were the lone double-digit scorers for Syracuse.
Things got off to a fast start for the Tigers, who led 13-3 after four minutes behind two 3-pointers from Hunter. The Orange rallied to get within 17-14, but Tyson scored eight points in 1 1/2 minutes as the hosts regained momentum.
Following back-to-back jumpers by Hall, Clemson led 31-16 with just over eight minutes left until halftime.
The Tigers took their largest first-half lead at 38-20 on Galloway's 3-pointer with 4:58 remaining. Syracuse then rattled off seven consecutive points - the final five by Mintz - before Hall's layup and Tyson's 3-pointer pushed the lead back to 16.
Girard's four-point play helped the visitors get within 45-32 at halftime, but Syracuse never got closer than 11 in the second half.
With the Orange trailing 55-44 with 15 1/2 minutes left, Tyson made three free throws and a dunk as part of an 11-0 run that essentially ended any hopes of a comeback. Hunter and Alex Hemenway each made a 3-pointer during the decisive burst.
Clemson led by as many as 25 points down the stretch.
The Tigers finished with a 38-28 rebounding advantage and made twice as many 3-pointers (14) as the Orange. They also recorded 28 assists, compared to just nine for Syracuse.
