Jaden Akins scored a career-high 22 points and Michigan State stretched its winning streak to three games by defeating Stony Brook 99-55 in East Lansing, Mich., on Thursday night.
Tyson Walker supplied 17 points for the Spartans (7-5) and A.J. Hoggard contributed 12 points and 10 assists. Xavier Booker added 11 points and seven rebounds and Jeremy Fears dished out 10 assists.
The Seawolves (6-6) had their four-game winning streak snapped. Keenan Fitzmorris led them with 10 points and Chris Maidoh chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.
Michigan State, which racked up 33 assists, shot 59.4 percent from the field. Stony Brook shot 29.1 percent.
Walker and Akins had 13 points apiece as the Spartans rolled to a 48-12 halftime lead.
Michigan State had 19 fastbreak points and held Stony Brook to 5-for-37 shooting.
The Spartans were up by 18 during the first six minutes and 11 seconds. Jaden Akins got the Spartans going by making a jumper in the opening minute.
Hoggard followed with a three-point play, then set up an alley-oop dunk by Akins after a Stony Brook turnover. After Fitzmorris scored the Seawolves' first points, Hoggard knocked down a 3-pointer. Walker then scored eight of the next 10 points to finish off the early run.
Akins' dunk after another Stony Brook giveaway provided Michigan State with its first 20-point advantage at 27-7. That came during an 11-0 Spartans run.
Malik Hall's layup with 3:52 left in the half pushed the Spartans' advantage past 30 points. Akins also scored the final points of the half on a 3-pointer.
The Seawolves scored the first five points of the second half. However, they were unable to cut their deficit below 30 points.
Tre Holloman gave Michigan State a 40-point lead at 63-23 on a 3-pointer with 12:58 remaining.
