Zach Edey scored 30 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked four shots, and No. 2 Purdue posted an 84-70 win over Iowa in a Big Ten matchup Saturday afternoon in Iowa City, Iowa.
Lance Jones added 17 points and shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc for Purdue (17-2, 6-2 Big Ten), which swept its regular-season series against Iowa. Fletcher Loyer finished with 12 points.
Tony Perkins scored 24 points on 10-for-19 shooting to lead Iowa (11-7, 3-4). Payton Sandfort scored 16 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds, and Ben Krikke scored 10.
Purdue outrebounded Iowa 50-24, including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds.
An 8-0 run gave the Boilermakers a 19-point lead midway through the second half. Braden Smith and Mason Gillis made back-to-back 3-pointers and Loyer made a jump shot to increase Purdue's advantage to 64-45 with 13:02 to go.
Iowa cut the deficit to eight points with less than five minutes remaining. Perkins made a layup off an assist from Josh Dix to bring the Hawkeyes within 10, and Dix made two free throws moments later to bring the Hawkeyes within 78-70 with 4:22 left.
The Boilermakers were mired in a scoring drought until Jones drained a 3-pointer with 1:35 to go. Jones' basket boosted Purdue's lead to 81-70.
Iowa went the final 4:22 without scoring a point.
Purdue built a 47-34 lead at the half.
The Hawkeyes started strong and took a four-point lead in the first eight minutes. Sandfort made a jump shot to put the Hawkeyes on top 18-14 with 12:32 to go in the first half.
The Boilermakers responded with a 14-0 run to grab the lead for good.
Gillis drained a 3-pointer to start Purdue's scoring binge. Jones also made a 3-pointer during the run, and Smith finished it off with a layup to increase the Boilermakers' lead to 28-18 with 8:42 remaining in the half.
Loyer made a layup in the closing seconds of the half to put Purdue ahead by 13.
