A strong finish propelled Boston College to a 63-59 victory over Notre Dame on Monday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Eagles (11-6, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed by 12 in the first half but outscored the Fighting Irish 34-23 in the second half, including 14-4 in the final five minutes.
Jaeden Zackery scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting for Boston College, which also received a 17-point performance from Quinten Post.
Boston College trailed by six late with 5:12 left to play before Post scored eight straight points, including two 3-pointers, to give the Eagles a 57-55 lead.
Notre Dame (7-11, 2-5) trailed by two and had the ball with 11 seconds to play, but Carey Booth missed a 3-pointer. The Fighting Irish fouled, and Chas Kelley III finalized the scoring with two free throws.
Freshman Markus Burton led Notre Dame with 19 points. Braeden Shrewsberry finished with 12. The Fighting Irish lost despite outshooting Boston College 41.2 percent to 37.5 percent and outrebounding the Eagles 44-28.
Booth had a game-high 13 rebounds. Notre Dame also received 10 rebounds from both Julian Roper II and Kebba Njie.
A 10-0 run gave Notre Dame a 26-17 lead with 5:44 remaining in the first half. The Fighting Irish led 31-19 after Booth connected on a 3-pointer with 3:34 left in the half.
Notre Dame made 14 of its 27 field goal attempts in the first 20 minutes and had a 36-29 halftime lead. BC went 10-of-30 from the field in the first half.
The Eagles scored the first eight points in the second half and went in front 37-36 on two Devin McGlockton free throws with 16:34 to play. BC was up 47-42, its largest lead of the game, following Donald Hand's layup with 10:31 left, but Notre Dame regained the lead on back-to-back 3-pointers by J.R. Konieczny.
Tae Davis returned to the Notre Dame lineup after missing Saturday's 67-58 loss to Florida State with a sprained ankle. He scored six points in 13 minutes.
