Jordan King scored a team-high 17 points to help lead host Richmond to a 69-64 victory over No. 16 Dayton on Saturday.
Isaiah Bigelow added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Spiders (15-5, 7-0 Atlantic 10), who won their 10th consecutive game and their first over a ranked opponent since a win over then-No. 16 Iowa in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Dji Bailey also tallied 12 points. Neal Quinn added 11 points and DeLonnie Hunt chipped in 10 points.
Javon Bennett led Dayton (16-3, 6-1) with 18 points. Kobe Elvis added 11 points for the Flyers, who saw their Division I-best 13-game winning streak come to an end. Koby Brea collected 10 points, while the conference's leading scorer, DaRon Holmes II, managed just nine points on 2-for-12 shooting from the floor. Enoch Cheeks added a team-high 12 rebounds for the Flyers.
After facing a five-point halftime deficit, Dayton tied the score at 37-all with 9:57 left in the second half.
Brea's three-pointer cut Richmond's lead to 49-47 with 5:46 left. Richmond answered with a 7-0 scoring run, taking a 56-47 lead with 3:22 remaining.
Holmes then hit a 3-pointer, and Brea hit two free throws, cutting the Richmond advantage to three points with 2:20 left. King then beat the shot clock buzzer with a turnaround jumper. After a defensive stop, Bigelow made two free throws, stretching the Spiders' lead to seven.
A pair of free throws by Bennett cut Dayton's deficit to three points with 12 seconds left, but King answered with two free throws to cement the victory.
In the first half, neither team found a rhythm. Richmond led Dayton 20-15 at halftime, with the Spiders shooting 8-for-30 (26.7 percent) from the floor and the Flyers connecting on just 6 of their 31 (19.4 percent) field-goal attempts.
Quinn's eight points paced Richmond in the first half, while Dayton was led by Nate Santos' five points.
