Samajae Haynes-Jones scored 31 points as No. 8 Wichita State rolled past Savannah State 112-66 on Tuesday night at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan.
Rashard Kelly and Darral Willis Jr. each recorded double-doubles, and Austin Reaves added 12 points for the Shockers (5-1). Kelly finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Willis had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Alante Fenner scored 18 points to lead the Tigers (2-6), who surrendered more than 100 points for the fourth time this season. Austin Dasent had 15 points and Dexter McClanahan added 10 for Savannah State.
Wichita State bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to Notre Dame last week in the championship game of the Maui Invitational. The Shockers led by as many as 15 points against the Fighting Irish but surrendered the lead late and took their first loss of the year.
They wouldn't have any trouble with the visiting Tigers from the MEAC on Tuesday.
Savannah State tried to keep up with the Shockers early and took a 20-17 lead on a 3-pointer from Fenner at the 10-minute mark of the first half. However, Wichita State took command from that point.
The Shockers outscored the Tigers 21-2 in the final four minutes of the first half and went into halftime with a commanding 55-29 lead. Jones had 21 points before the break.
Wichita State now heads into the toughest stretch of its nonconference schedule, starting with a trip to No. 16 Baylor on Saturday.
Savannah State will try to regroup Thursday at home against Carver Bible College.
