Gabe Levin's 14 points led the 49ers (5-9), who were playing their highest-rated opponent since they lost to No. 2 Texas in December 2009. Levin, who passed the 1,000-point mark last weekend, made just 7 of 19 shots from the field.
The 49ers were held to 40.7 percent shooting (24 of 59) by the nation's leader in field-goal percentage defense.
Long Beach State junior guard Bryan Alberts, the team's second-leading scorer at 14.0 points per game, did not play for undisclosed reasons.
Ward posted 12 first-half points as Michigan State led 48-32 at halftime.
The Spartans shot 63 percent from the field in the opening half and gradually built their lead. Winston's layup with 8:11 remaining established the first double-digit lead at 28-17. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Jackson and Langford resulted in the biggest lead of the half at 39-22.
Ward's uncontested dunk two minutes into the second half pushed the advantage past 20 points. Langford's 3-pointer with 9:35 left upped the Spartans' lead past 30 at 76-45.
