Amir Harris' driving layup with 10.8 seconds left in overtime Sunday lifted Nebraska to a 93-91 Big Ten win over struggling Iowa at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb.
The Hawkeyes' final chance of winning was snuffed out when Jordan Bohannon, who scored 20 points, had his 3-pointer rejected by freshman Thorir Thorbjarnarson as time expired. It was the fourth straight loss for Iowa (21-10, 10-10 Big Ten) and its fifth defeat in six games.
Nebraska forced overtime when James Palmer Jr. drove for a layup with 8.5 seconds left, completing its comeback from a 16-point deficit early in the second half. The Cornhuskers scored an astonishing 16 points in the final 50 seconds of regulation after trailing 74-65.
Palmer scored a game-high 27 points for Nebraska (16-15, 6-14), while Glynn Watson, Jr. and Isaiah Roby each added 23. The Cornhuskers, who had just seven scholarship players dressed due to injuries and suspensions, canned 13 of 26 3-pointers.
Luka Garza pumped in 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Hawkeyes, while Joe Wieskamp contributed 14 points and eight boards. Isaiah Moss chipped in 10 points.
Iowa got off to a fast start, establishing a 13-6 lead just over three minutes into the game when Garza converted a short jumper in the lane after a Nebraska turnover. That would become a theme of the first half -- the Cornhuskers cough it up and the Hawkeyes cash in. Iowa enjoyed a 10-0 advantage in points off turnovers during the opening 20 minutes.
Nebraska fought back and grabbed a 23-22 edge when Palmer canned two free throws at the 8:07 mark, but the Hawkeyes regained control as key Cornhusker players went to the bench with two fouls each.
A Tyler Cook dunk finished off a 15-5 run that gave Iowa a 37-28 advantage, but Watson stopped the bleeding a bit by drilling a 3-pointer as time expired. The Hawkeyes' 37-31 lead at halftime was their first in eight games.
