With a home record of 252-13 at Kansas, Bill Self's teams haven't looked past many opponents at Allen Fieldhouse in 16-plus seasons at the helm, and he made it clear after the Jayhawks' latest victory they would not have that luxury in their next contest either. Coming off its most impressive showing of the season, No. 5 Kansas sets its sights on a 23rd straight home win Tuesday when East Tennessee State pays a visit during the on-campus portion of the Maui Invitational.

Kansas wasted little time disposing of Monmouth in Friday's 112-57 rout, forcing the Hawks to miss their first 11 shots en route to building a 38-point advantage at the break - its largest lead at intermission in nearly 10 years - but it didn't take Self long after the game before he was ready to turn the page. "(The Buccaneers) are definitely an NCAA tournament team. … People will think I’m nuts, but it will be hard to play well against them as it will be Duke. I hope our fans get turned up for this one because that is a big game for us," Self said afterward. Even though the program has made the Big Dance only once since 2009-10, East Tennessee State has emerged as a mid-major powerhouse, winning at least 24 games in each of coach Steve Forbes' first four seasons. The Buccaneers improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1998-99 on Thursday, getting a tiebreaking 3-pointer from Tray Boyd III with 32 seconds left to hold off Winthrop.

ABOUT EAST TENNESSEE STATE (3-0): Junior guard Bo Hodges (team-high 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.0 steals) was one of three Buccaneers to land on the 10-man preseason Southern Conference first team and has lived up to his advanced billing so far while shooting 57.1 percent. Patrick Good (13.7 points) and Boyd (13.0) became the first pair of teammates in school history to bury at least 80 3-pointers apiece in 2018-19 and are off to another good start in that regard this season, combining to hit 17 of their first 33 attempts beyond the arc. Jeromy Rodriguez (8.7 points, 7.7 rebounds) is off to a bit of a slow start after becoming only the second player in school history to average a double-double last season.

ABOUT KANSAS (2-1): The Jayhawks entered Friday's game having converted only 26 of their first 45 free throws, but they finished 24-of-31 against Monmouth; much of the credit for their current free-throw percentage (65.8) goes to Devon Dotson (team-high 18.7 points), who is 21-for-25 from the stripe. Iowa transfer Isaiah Moss (14.5) poured in a game-high 21 points against the Hawks, burying five of his six 3-point attempts and all six of his free throws despite playing only 15 minutes. David McCormack (8.3 points 9.3 rebounds) came off the bench for the first time this season and posted his first double-double, going 7-for-8 from the field while tallying 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
