After playing two of its first three games across the border in Canada, Washington begins a stretch of seven straight home games on Tuesday night. The 24th-ranked Huskies, who suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday to Tennessee in the Naismith Hall of Fame Classic in Toronto, will try and bounce back against Maine in their homestand opener.

Turnovers and surprisingly poor defense hurt the rebuilding Huskies in the 75-62 loss to the Vols. Washington turned it over 17 times against Tennessee, which also shot 47.2 percent from the floor and connected on 6-of-13 3-pointers (46.2 percent). "At the end of the day, we're not going to beat anybody shooting 47 percent from the field and 46 from the 3-point line," Huskies coach Mike Hopkins told 247sports.com. "It's just not what we do. We're one of the best defensive teams in the country when we're active, we're live, and we're rebounding. Tonight, they just picked us apart." Maine, picked to finish eighth in the nine-team America East preseason coaches poll, comes in off a 71-62 loss at Portland on Saturday night.

TV: 11 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network.

ABOUT MAINE (1-2): The Black Bears opened their season with an 84-64 home victory over Merrimack College, followed that up with a 67-46 loss at Harvard and then fell to the Pilots on Saturday. Senior point guard Sergio El Darwich had 21 points, five assists and four rebounds to lead Maine at Portland while senior forward Andrew Fleming added 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. The 6-foot-7 Fleming, a preseason first team All-America East pick, is averaging 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and four assists while Texas State transfer Nedeljko Prijovic is averaging almost a double-double (9.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg) and has connected on 6-of-13 3-pointers (46.2 percent).

ABOUT WASHINGTON (2-1): Junior forward Nahziah Carter (18 points, game-high 12 rebounds) and 6-9 freshman Isaiah Stewart (14 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles in the loss to Tennessee and along with 6-9 freshman Jaden McDaniels (15 points), an athletic and long-armed McDonald's All-American, give the Huskies the makings of a strong defensive team capable of making a run at another Pac-12 title. Sophomore point guard Quade Green, a transfer from Kentucky, is averaging 5.7 points and six assists and had 10 points, six assists and four turnovers in the loss to the Vols. Carter (7.3), Stewart (7.3) and McDaniels (7.0) are all averaging seven or more rebounds per game for the Huskies, who are plus-3.7 in rebound margin.
