The Liacouras Center

Last Meeting ( Dec 1, 2018 ) Temple 77, St. Joseph's 70

Coming off its worst offensive performance of the season, Temple returns to the court Tuesday for a matchup against local rival Saint Joseph's. The Owls scored a season-low 54 points in Saturday's home loss to Missouri with turnovers (19) and 3-point shooting (2-of-21) being two of the biggest reasons for the ugly performance.

"They didn't really pressure us; we were just careless with the ball," Temple senior Quinton Rose said. "Maybe it is a lack of focus. We'll figure it out." Rose led the team with 16 points but missed all seven of his 3-pointers in the 10-point defeat. Temple previously had scored between 65-75 points in every game and already has posted quality wins against USC and Texas A&M. Saint Joseph's, meanwhile, has dropped seven straight since posting a solid victory at Connecticut, but the team was competitive at Villanova its last time out.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S (2-8): Saint Joseph's also is coming off a forgettable offensive effort as the team shot 38.5 percent from the floor and 5-of-24 from long range in a 12-point setback at Villanova. Ryan Daly nearly scored half of the Hawks' points, finishing with 32 points despite missing all five 3-pointers that he attempted. The junior guard is averaging 22 points on the year but is connecting on just 28.3 percent of his 3s for a team that shoots 29.8 percent from beyond the arc overall.

ABOUT TEMPLE (6-2): Rose leads three double-digit scorers for the Owls at 14.8 points per game, and he's tied for the team lead in assists (3.4) with Nate Pierre-Louis. Pierre-Louis chips in 12.4 points and a team-leading 8.9 rebounds, but he has made only three of his 22 3-pointers for first-year coach Aaron McKie. Alani Moore (10.0 points) shoots just 35.3 percent overall and is 2-of-15 in the last two games and went scoreless in 34 minutes versus Missouri.

TIP-INS

1. This game is part of the Big 5, an annual round-robin between five Philadelphia area schools.

2. After averaging approximately 2.5 turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, Rose is averaging a career-low 1.6 turnovers so far this season.

3. Temple won last year's meeting 77-70 and has won the last three matchups between the teams.
