Chase Center

Last Meeting ( Dec 17, 2011 ) San Diego 55, Stanford 75

Stanford star point guard Tyrell Terry could miss his second straight game on Saturday when the Cardinal face San Diego at the Chase Center in San Francisco as part of the Al Attles Classic. The dynamic freshman averages 15.2 points and 3.4 assists for the Cardinal, who host Kansas next Sunday before starting Pac-12 play against California on Jan. 2.

Terry was scratched from the lineup shortly before last Tuesday’s 64-56 win over San Francisco, but Daejon Davis and Oscar da Silva each contributed 18 points to help Stanford rally for its eighth straight home victory. Davis led the second-half comeback by recording 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting with four assists, three rebounds and a blocked shot after the break. “He absolutely sparked the team defensively, but he sparked it from a leadership perspective, and he sparked it in the second half on the offensive side of the basketball,” coach Jerod Haase told reporters. “The coaching staff found ways to get Daejon to the middle of the court and going downhill. He did the rest.” Davis is averaging 8.4 points and 2.1 steals for a Stanford team that has won three in a row following a one-point loss to Butler in Kansas City.

ABOUT STANFORD (10-1): Haase looked to role players such as James Keefe, Lukas Kisunas, Isaac White, and Jaiden Delaire to step up against San Francisco in place of Terry, who is not expected to miss much time. Bryce Wills has been quiet offensively this season but matched his season high with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in 38 minutes against the Dons. The team’s offense revolves around the 6-9 da Silva, who leads the Cardinal in scoring (17.5) and rebounds (5.5) while shooting 61.9 percent from the field.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO (6-7): The Toreros have won their last three games against Holy Cross, Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis but take a step up in competition against Stanford, which leads the Pac-12 in scoring defense at 57.5 points per game. Junior guard Braun Hartfield has emerged as a key scoring threat in the last six games, averaging 16.2 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field over that stretch. The Toreros have also received a boost from 6-10 junior Yauhen Massalski, who is averaging 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in the last three games off the bench.
