Georgetown @ Seton Hall preview

Prudential Center

Last Meeting ( Mar 14, 2019 ) Georgetown 57, Seton Hall 73

Myles Powell will have a chance to record his fourth straight 30-point game against Georgetown when Seton Hall hosts the Hoyas on Friday in a Big East Conference contest. The senior has averaged 32 points in the last three meetings and 28 points in the last five for the Pirates against the Hoyas, who will hope to have sophomore guard Mac McClung back in action.

Powell, an All-American last season, returned from an absence of two-plus games because of a concussion to lead the Pirates to victory at DePaul in their Big East opener Monday. The 6-2 guard from Trenton, N.J., who moved into eighth place on Seton Hall's all-time scoring list with 1,902 career points, will likely have a little more in the tank against Georgetown after running on empty after 34 minutes against DePaul. "He's one of the toughest son-of-a-guns I've ever seen," coach Kevin Willard told the media of Powell, who needs 84 points to move into top five in school history. "Nothing he does surprises me. I was hoping to get 20 minutes out of him, and he wouldn't let me take him out." With no McClung, who had averaged 22.2 points in five games prior to suffering an eye injury, and Providence focusing most of its attention on center Omer Yurtseven, the Hoyas trailed 14-0 early and 54-23 at halftime before rallying to make it a 16-point defeat.

TIME: 9 p.m. ET. TV: Fox Sports 1

ABOUT GEORGETOWN (10-4, 0-1 Big East): The players who were called upon to help to fill the void - Jamorko Pickett, Jagan Mosely and Jahvon Blair - didn't answer the call as none scored more than 10 points and each contributed to Georgetown's 36.8 percent shooting from the field. Due to a string of transfers, coach Patrick Ewing has no other options short of going big with little-used freshmen centers Qudus Wahab and Timothy Ighoefe or senior forward George Muresan, who has seven career points. "Mac is an important part of our team. With him on the floor we stand a much better chance," Ewing told the media. "But one of the things I have been telling our guys is that everybody was crying about opportunities. Now they got opportunities and they have to step up."

ABOUT SETON HALL (9-4, 1-0 Big East): A pep talk with Willard did wonders for Myles Cale, who put an awful three-game slump behind him with 16 points and six rebounds against DePaul. The junior guard had gone 7-of-28 from the field and 1-of-15 from beyond the arc while scoring 16 total points in those three games. "You don't have to worry about missing shots and getting yanked," Willard told the media of what he said to Cale, who averages 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds. "You are so good at so many other facets. Miss all you want, but just keep doing what you're doing on the other end."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Pirates are 3-4 in Quad 1 games after beating DePaul.

2. Yurtseven recorded his seventh double-double of the season against Providence, a total topped by only 11 players in Division I entering Thursday.

3. Powell has shot 49 percent from the field in the last five games against Georgetown, in which the Pirates are 3-2.

PREDICTION: Seton Hall 77, Georgetown 65
