Creighton @ Georgetown preview

Capital One Arena

Last Meeting ( Feb 23, 2019 ) Georgetown 69, Creighton 82

Ty-Shon Alexander and Creighton will look to continue their recent dominance over Georgetown on Wednesday in a Big East Conference game in Washington, D.C. Alexander, who is nearing 1,000 career points, has helped the Bluejays to win five straight games against the Hoyas.

Alexander needs 11 points to become the 42nd player in Creighton history to score 1,000 points and should have no problem getting them against a team he averaged 20 points against last season, including recording 26 points in the Bluejays' second straight victory in D.C. Of the last 16 players to reach the 1,000-point plateau for Creighton, only four - Marcus Foster, Doug McDermott, Kyle Korver and Rodney Buford - have done it in fewer than the 84 games that Alexander has played for the Bluejays. Alexander and fellow guards Marcus Zegarowski and Mitch Ballock have combined to shoot 41 percent from beyond the arc this season, and are one of two trios in Division I in which all three players have hit 39 or more 3-pointers, joining North Florida's Carter Hendricksen, J.T. Escobar and Ivan Gandia-Rosa. Sophomore guard Mac McClung has three games with 20 or more points and three contests with exactly eight points in his last six contests for the Hoyas, who gave up 15 3-pointers in Saturday's 14-point defeat at No. 15 Villanova.

TIME: 7 p.m. ET. TV: CBS Sports Network.

ABOUT CREIGHTON (13-4, 2-2 Big East): Ballock is steadily climbing the ranks in terms of career 3-pointers made for Creighton and stands in eighth place with 190 treys. The junior from Kansas, who this season is ranked ninth in Division I in 3-point shooting (45.5 percent) and 20th in 3-pointers made (51), will likely crack the top five in school history before the season is through and could pass Doug McDermott (274) for third place before his career is done. The top two spots safely belong to Kyle Korver (371) and Ethan Wragge (334).

ABOUT GEORGETOWN (11-6, 1-3): Qudus Wahab has been trying to establish himself as a regular contributor for the Hoyas and may have enjoyed a breakthrough against Villanova. The 6-11 freshman center set career highs with six field goals and 13 points, only the second game in double figures in his career, in just 15 minutes of action. Wahab, Jamorko Pickett and leading rebounder Omer Yurtseven will be key in helping the Hoyas dominate the boards as they average 40.4 rebounds - good for second in the Big East - against 36.4 boards per game for the Blue Jays (ninth).

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Zegarowski will be playing in his 50th career game at Creighton and needs two points to have the eighth-most through 50 games in team history.

2. The Bluejays, who gave coach Greg McDermott his 500th career victory Saturday - including his 220th at Creighton, are 8-0 when scoring 74 or more points against the Hoyas and 0-6 when scoring fewer than 74 points.

3. Creighton is 12-0 when making eight or more 3-pointers and is 16-3 all-time when Alexander, Zegarowski and Ballock all score in double figures.

PREDICTION: Creighton 85, Georgetown 77
