No. 13 West Virginia pounded TCU by 32 points early in the week and was looking to improve to 4-1 when the wheels fell off Saturday against a Kansas State team that was winless in Big 12 play. In a short turn around, the Mountaineers will try to bounce back from their worst loss of the season when they host Texas on Monday in another league contest.

West Virginia trailed by as many as 24 points early in the second half before it showed some resolve, pulling within six before losing 84-68. "We weren't ready," Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins said on his postgame radio show. "We weren't ready yesterday (to practice) and we weren't ready today. ... We missed four or five layups to start the game and we shot 50 percent from the free throw line. How are you going to win? We turn it over 18 times again. We're not going to win doing that." The Longhorns bounced back from two losses to open Big 12 play with wins over Kansas State and Oklahoma State, and they led Kansas by five at the half before dropping a 66-57 decision on Saturday. The seventh-ranked Jayhawks closed the game on a 12-3 run to post the victory.
