Junior point guard Remy Martin has carried the bulk of the scoring load early on for Arizona State, but coach Bobby Hurley knows he’ll need others to step up in order to compete for a Pac-12 title. The search for additional scorers continues Saturday when the Sun Devils begin a three-game homestand against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Martin was named Pac-12 player of the week after scoring a career-high 33 points in 40 minutes in a two-point win over Princeton before finishing with 14 points, five assists and six rebounds in Tuesday’s 71-67 win over San Francisco. The native Californian is averaging a team-high 20.6 points and 3.9 assists while shooting 47.3 percent after averaging 11.3 points in his first two seasons. Martin had a poor shooting night against San Francisco and committed four turnovers but was picked up by junior forward Romello White, who recorded his first double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds. “Remy didn’t have his usual game, but we were able to weather the storm,” Hurley told reporters. “Good things happen when we get the ball to Romello. We have multiple guys that we think can impact winning for us at the offensive end. We just have to get a little more balanced.”

ABOUT LOUISIANA (5-3): Junior forward Jalen Johnson had a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s 98-81 win over Southeastern Louisiana while junior guard Cedric Russell added 16 points and seven rebounds. Picked to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Conference preseason coaches poll, the Ragin’ Cajuns are averaging 78.1 points but committing 15.5 turnovers per game. Three players are scoring in double figures, including Johnson (17.8), Russell (13.8) and freshman forward Kobe Julien, who is averaging 12.8 points and 5.5 rebounds.

ABOUT ARIZONA STATE (5-2): While Martin has emerged as a Pac-12 player of the year candidate, the Sun Devils need more production from fellow guards Rob Edwards, Jaelen House and Alonzo Verge Jr., who combined for eight points on 3-of-21 shooting against San Francisco. Hurley was encouraged by the play of junior forward Kimani Lawrence, who finished with seven points in 15 minutes off the bench after going scoreless in his two previous games. The Sun Devils’ nine-man rotation includes sophomore forward Taeshon Cherry, who scored a season-high 10 points against the Dons.

TIP-INS

1. The teams are meeting for the first time since Dec. 21, 1978, when Arizona State posted a 98-78 victory.

2. White left Tuesday’s game against San Francisco twice for an ankle injury and a cut on his chin but is expected to start on Saturday.

3. Arizona State opponents are averaging just 61.7 points per game and shooting 25.7 percent from 3-point range.

PREDICTION: Arizona State 84, Louisiana 62
