Last Meeting ( Nov 16, 2013 ) Princeton 67, Butler 70

Kelan Martin made sure that LaVall Jordan's debut at Butler was a victorious one. Martin aims for an encore performance Sunday as the Bulldogs host Princeton in an intriguing non-conference matchup.

The Bulldogs won by 18 points against Kennesaw State on Friday as Jordan, who took over for Chris Holtmann, notched an impressive win in his head coaching debut. Martin, who led the team at 16 points per game a season ago, was joined in double-figures on Friday by George Washington transfer Paul Jorgensen (14) and senior forward Tyler Wideman (13), who shot 6-of-7 from the field. Butler led 48-24 at the half and coasted from there to its 36th straight home win against a non-conference opponent. Meanwhile, this is the season opener for Princeton, which is projected to be a contender in the Ivy League after going undefeated in conference play a season ago.

TV: 6 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network

ABOUT PRINCETON (2016-17: 23-7): The Tigers won all 16 of their Ivy League games last season, including the league's first ever tournament championship game with a 12-point win over Yale. They gave fifth-seeded Notre Dame all they could handle in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before losing by two points. This time around, Princeton returns two of its four double-digit scorers -- Devin Cannady (13.4 points) and Myles Stephens (12.5) -- both of whom shot around 40 percent from 3-point range in 2016-17.

ABOUT BUTLER (1-0): Martin also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to go with his 20 points, and that will be critical since he and Wideman are the tallest Bulldogs starters at 6-7 and 6-8, respectively. Sean McDermott has good size for a guard at 6-6 but struggled in the opener, going 0-of-3 during 17 scoreless minutes. Freshman Aaron Thompson enjoyed a positive Butler debut with seven points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals during a 24-minute run off the bench.

TIP-INS

1. Butler did a nice job on the defensive glass in its opener, limiting Kennesaw State to six offensive rebounds on 32 missed shots.

2. The Tigers struggled to protect the rim last season. Stephens led the team with 22 blocks and was the only player with more than 13 blocks all year.

3. One concern for Butler heading in its second game is foul shooting after a 12-of-23 effort from the line on Friday.

PREDICTION: Butler 62, Princeton 57
