A contrast in styles will be on display Thursday when Virginia Tech takes on Saint Louis at the 2K Classic in New York City. Virginia Tech is one of the highest scoring teams in the nation so far this season, while the Billikens once again boast a strong defense.

The Hokies rank second in the nation in scoring (121.5) through two games and tied for 304th in scoring defense (86.0) entering Wednesday's contests. The Hokies scored 66 points in each half of a 132-93 triumph against The Citadel on Sunday, shooting nearly 69 percent from the field in the process. Saint Louis, meanwhile, has allowed the fifth-fewest points per game (48.0) in the early going, but its offense is producing just 68 points per outing. Division II opponent Rockhurst shot just over 32 percent against the Billikens in Monday's 74-50 setback.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2

ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH (2-0): The Hokies have five players averaging double-digit points and another two players who are not far behind, as they are shooting 62.5 percent as a team. They are also connecting on 44.2 percent from 3-point range, led by Nickeil Alexander-Walker (7-of-14) and Justin Robinson (5-of-8). Alexander-Walker is the top scorer for Virginia Tech at 26.5 points, while Kerry Blackshear Jr., who missed all of last season with a leg injury, contributes 22.5 points per game.

ABOUT SAINT LOUIS (2-0): The Billikens have a roster loaded with players who are shooting well through two games, but they are only connecting on 45.8 percent as a team. That is due mainly to freshman guard Jordan Goodwin, who is 1-of-18 on the young season, although he is averaging solid all-around totals of seven points, eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks. Javon Bess averages a team-high 13.5 points, while Aaron Hines has a team-high four 3-pointers and is averaging 12 points.
