Southern @ Baylor preview

Ferrell Center

Last Meeting ( Dec 14, 2016 ) Southern 59, Baylor 89

No. 18 Baylor has chance to extend two streaks as it closes non-conference play against visiting Southern on Wednesday. The Bears, who have won 47 straight at home against unranked non-conference opponents, are trying to enter Big 12 play with double-digit wins for the 11th time in 12 years.

The high-scoring Bears are averaging 101.5 points during a four-game win streak and are getting big points inside. The Bears are averaging 40.4 points in the paint and 7-0 senior forward Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. is coming off a 31-points, 20-rebound performance. The Jaguars are 0-8 on the road and have never beaten Baylor in eight tries. The teams have played three of the past four years with Baylor winning by an average of 19.7 points.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Fox College Sports.

ABOUT SOUTHERN (3-8): Senior forward Jared Sam leads the Jaguars with 15.5 points and 7.6 rebounds. Junior guard Eddie Reese adds 9.4 points, while senior Emanual Shepherd averages 6.9 points and 6.1 rebounds after recording his first double-double of the year in last week's 68-50 win over Florida A&M. Junior forward Sidney Umude, a transfer from Youngstown State, had 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench in his Southern debut Thursday against the Rattlers.

ABOUT BAYLOR (9-2):
Senior point guard Manu Lecomte leads the shorthanded Bears with 18 points per game and is second in the Big 12 with 3.6 made 3-pointers. Lual-Acuil, who adds 15.8 points and a Big 12-best 10.5 rebounds, is tied for the league-lead with six double-doubles. Junior Jake Lindsey (5.5 points) leads the Big 12 with a 4.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, while senior forward Nuni Omot (12.3 points) is averaging 23.3 points on 72 percent shooting in his past three contests.

TIP-INS

1. Baylor has eight scholarship players available as F Terry Maston (hand) and F Leonard Allen (medical reasons) are out.

2. Southern's road losses include Illinois (by 47), Duke (by 17) and Iowa (by 31).

3. Bears freshman G Tyson Jolly did not play Sunday (coach's decision) but "should be back" for the game against the Jaguars.

PREDICTION: Baylor 90, Southern 65
